BMW Engines for New Police Cars

Carbon Motors Corp and BMW reached an agreement for BMW to supply them with turbocharged diesel engines for carbon purpose-built police vehicles.  The deal was that BMW would supply Carbon with 240,000 units of 3.0 liter inline six-cylinder turbo-diesel engines; these are the same engines that are used in the BMW’s X5.  These diesel engines will come with a cooling system, exhaust gas recirculation and an automatic transmission.  The engines will be used in the Carbon developed E7 patrol car that will be sold to police agencies.  The new police car will be launched in 2012 and they already have thousands of reservations. 

The E7 is said to have an aluminum structure that is built to survive a 75 mph rear impact and can last for 250,000 miles.  They are saying that the police car can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds and can hit a speed of 150 mph.
